Volunteer with Thrive

Author: Thrive, Dated: 10/08/2011

Disability gardening charity Thrive is looking for volunteers to help conserve Morgaston Woods, part of the Vyne National Trust estate near Basingstoke.

Up to 12 volunteers will meet once a week on a Tuesday and no experience is necessary as full training, guidance and support will be given by Thrive. The charity will also provide tools, footwear, gardening gloves and other equipment that may be needed.

Project leader Jan Broady, said: "We welcome people of all walks of life who are looking to improve their physical health and have a love of the outdoors. Volunteers will have the chance to develop conservation skills and knowledge whilst working outdoors in a small and friendly team, helping to improve the local environment.

"Activities will include reducing invasive species such as bracken and rhododendron, maintaining woodland rides and historic paths, managing habitats to encourage native wild flowers and increase biodiversity, and erecting signs and interpretation boards.

"So if you are keen to work outdoors, would like to learn new skills and meet new people whilst helping in the community, then please get in touch."

Anyone interested should telephone Jan Broady on 0118 988 4844.
