Training

Thrive runs a comprehensive programme of training courses from September through to June each year. These courses will be of interest to you if you:

are working in social and therapeutic horticulture, health, education and social care
have recently started a new job in these areas or are recently qualified
want to start a new career in social and therapeutic horticulture.

Courses run over one or two days and usually the first day considers the needs of the individual client and the second day looks at the wider issues affecting garden projects.

We also offer a bespoke training service where we can tailor a course to meet your exact requirements, and we can organise study days for groups from overseas.

If you have a qualification in health or social care, education or horticulture, or you are an established practitioner of social and therapeutic horticulture, we also offer the Professional Development Diploma in STH. This course is run in partnership with Coventry University and Pershore College.

Bespoke training and study days

Each of Thrive's training courses on social and therapeutic horticulture can be adapted and tailored to meet the specific requirements of your organisation and staff. We also offer study days for groups from overseas.

Two-day horticulture skills course

This course will provide the knowledge and skills of how to use the key horticultural skills most used in STH.

Over the two days you will learn practical core skills in propagation and seed sowing, have theory sessions on basic plant biology, and get an overview of how horticultural tasks can be used and adpapted to meet client's needs

Using social and therapeutic horticulture for older people with specific support needs

This one day course will give you the knowledge and skills to use STH to improve older people's quality of life. Rehabilitation and recovery are a focus, as is how to work with people who have dementia, help stroke survivors and those living with heart disease.

Using social and therapeutic horticulture for young people with educational needs

This two day course will help you match horticulture activities to the individual needs of young people while meeting the requirements of the national curriculum and provide you with the necessary information, skills and practical techniques to use horticulture activities when working with young people who have special educational needs.

Using social and therapeutic horticulture with people who have mental health support needs

This 2 day course will demonstrate how social and therapeutic horticulture can help people who have mental health support needs. Find out how to use the discipline to help clients with their rehabilitation, recovery, social inclusion, training and employment.

Using social and therapeutic horticulture with people who have learning disabilities

This course will give you the necessary information, skills, techniques and confidence to use social and therapeutic horticulture in your work with people who have learning disabilities.
